SCOTT LAMBERT FINISHES FIFTH IN PIRATE INVITATIONAL
Scott Lambert, a junior (third year) student at the University of North Carolina-Pembroke, finished a creditable joint fifth in a field of 66 players for the Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) Pirate Invitational college tournament at Savannah Quarters Country Club on Tuesday.
Scott, pictured, a member at Matfen Hall Golf Club, Northumberland, had rounds of 71, 75 and 74 for a total of 220 over the par-70, 6793yd course.
Winner was Joel Dahlenburg (Flagler College) with rounds of 69, 71 and 71 for a total of 211 - two shots ahead of runner-up Matt Motes (Armstrong Atlantic) (71-71-71) and seven ahead of the two players who shared third place on 218, Greg Mergel (Flagler) (76-70-72) and Chris Bray (UNC-Pembroke) (73-74-71).
Scottish students Chris McManus from Bearsden and Clark Nelson, late of Stirling University) - both now students at Clayton State University, Atlanta - tied for 19th and 38th places respectively.
McManus totalled 228 with scores of 76, 76 and 76, Nelson 81, 76 and 76 for 233.
The 11 teams were headed by Flagler College (876) ahead of Armstrong ATlantic (880) and UNC-Pembroke (902). Clayton State (952) finished last.
