KATIE MUNDY TOP BRIT IN HUGE FIELD AT KIAWAH ISLAND

A total of nine English and Welsh students took part in this week's Kiawah Island Women's Intercollegiate tournament which was contested by a huge field of 172 players and 33 college teams, making it the biggest in terms of participants event on the US college golf circuit.
Over the tough par-72 courses, Katie Mundy (Florida International University) from Hampshire was the highest UK finisher in joint 19th position. She had rounds of 74, 79 and 72 for a total of nine-over-par 225. Katie's image is by courtesy of Leaderboard Photography.
Welsh international Anna Carling (Arkansas State) from the Vale of Glamorgan came joint 27th on 227 with scores of 74, 74 and 75. On the same mark was Elizabeth Haycock (Old Dominion) from Birmingham. Elizabeth scored 78, 72 and 77.
Laura Cutler (Jacksonville State) from Essex finished joint 46th on 231 with rounds of 76, 76 and 79.
Kim Bradbury (Old Dominion) from Derbyshire, Emma Gilmore (Old Dominion) from Maylough, Ireland and Scunthorpe's Gemma Hardie (Central Arkansas) all had aggregates of 234 and shared 59th place.
Kim scored 87, 72 and 75, Emma 82, 76 and 76, Gemma 82, 76 and 76.
Welsh players Rachel Lewis (USC Upstate) and Kelly Miller (Daytona State) finished joint 85th and joint 134th respectively. Rachel had rounds of 83, 76 and 79 for a total of 238 while Kelly scored 77, 87 and 85 for 249.
At the very top of the leaderboard Sarah Bejgrowicz (Campbell University) and Daytona State's Mitsuki Katahara) tied on level par 216. Sarah scored 69, 71 and 76, Mitsuki 75, 68 and 73. No word of whether there was a play-off or not but the Campbell University website says that Sarah was the winner - obviously they know more than we do!
Betsy Birchall (William and Mary) came third on 217 with scores of 69, 74 and 74.
Miami (888) won the team title ahead of Campbell University (897) and third-placed Florida Interntional (901).
Central Arkansas (914) came eighth. Jacksonville State and Old Dominion were joint 15th on 927. USC Upstate (097) finished 32nd of the 33 competing teams.

EAST TENNESSEE STATE GLORY DAYS HAVE GONE
Meanwhile East Tennessee State University are no longer getting the high team finishes they did in the days when Edinburgh-born Rhys Davies from Wales was their star player (He is now a professional competing on the European Tour).
In this week's Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Country Club's River Course, San Juan, East Tennessee State (893) finished last of the 15 competing teams. Alabama (836) won the title ahead of Georgia Tech (841) with Oklahoma State (847) third.
East Tennessee State's Patrick Spraggs from Rochford, England and Paul Kane from Castledawson, Northern Ireland, finished joint 35th and 69th respectively in a field of 75 players.
James White (Georgia Tech) won the individual honours with a 10-under-par total of 206 over the par-72, 6902yd course with rounds of 69, 69 and 68. He won by a shot from Bud Cauley (Alabama) (69-68-70) and third-placed Kyle Scott (Georgia Tech) who had scores of 70, 69 and 69 for 208.
