BEN AND KATE TOP OF THE CLASS AT ACADEMY TROON FINALE
St Andrews' Ben Kinsley and Kate McIntosh (Broomieknowe) won the boys' and girls' sections of the Scottish Golf Academy's Under-16 Winter Series' fourth and last event of the 2010-2011 programme at Troon Darley muncipal course today.
Kinsley, runner-up in the second event at Strathmore Golf Centre and a top-10 finisher in the two others, at The Glen and the Eden Course, St Andrews, was rewarded for his consistency with a par-matching 71 to win by one shot from Euan Bowden (The Glen).
Kinsley birdied the third, sixth, 12th and 14th in halves of 35 (one under) and 36 (one over). He bogeyed the eighth 13th, 15th and 16th
Kate McIntosh won with a three-over-par 75, finishing two strokes ahead of Tara McTaggart (Minto) and Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie Ladies).
Kate almost scratched from the tournament because she had been sick several times on Saturday and again on the drive over to Ayrshire early this morning.
