Glasgow's Gavin Hay finished the leading Scot in a field of 89 players at this week's GolfWeek Spring Invitational men's college tournament at Reunion Resort, Florida.
But it was compatriot Daniel Young, pictured right, from Perth who stole some of the limelight with a marvellous final round of seven-under-par 65 - the tournament's joint lowest score over the 6,889yd (par 72) course. Only the winner matched it!
Young, a sophomore student at Lynn University, Boca Raton in Florida, had nine birdies and two bogeys in halves of 34 and 31.
If there had been a fourth round, goodness knows how low Daniel would have gone in it because he started the tournament with an eight-over-par 80, which included two double bogeys. Then he improved by five shots for a 75, which still included one double bogey. But in Round 3, Daniel got it altogether to shoot the lowest round of his golf career on either side of the Atlantic.
In the end, Young tied for 28th place with a total of 220, having been joint 66th going into the final round.
Daniel is a Craigie Hill Golf Club member and was a winner on the SGU Junior Tour in 2009 - the same year he was a member of the Scotland boys team that included the likes of David law, Paul Shields and Ian Redford. Young finished sixth in the SGU boys' Order of Merit in 2009.
Gavin Hay, a student at Carson-Newman College, finished joint 11th on 216 with scores of 73, 73 and 70. His final round included five birdies but also a double bogey 6 at the 11th. He had a triple bogey at the eighth in his second round. Apart from being the leading Scot, Gavin was also the leading player from Britain or Ireland in the field.
The third Scot in the field, Paul McPhee, also from Perth and also a student at Lynn University, finished joint 54th on 226 with scores of 72, 82 and 72 - pity about that middle round! Paul was the Scottish Under-14 boys' champion in 2006.
Liam Ashby (Carson-Newman College) from Dublin shared 20th place on 218 with deteriorating scores of 69, 74 and 75.
Another Irish student, Shane Smyth (Lynn University) from Co Louth finished in joint 61st position on 228 with scores of 76, 75 and 77.
The tournament was won by two shots by Alex Carpenter (Abilene Christian University) with a 13-under-par total of 203, made up of round sof 72, 66 and 65.
Barton College and Lynn University tied for the team title on 857, six shots ahead of Abilene.
Carson-Newman College did not do so well - obviously short of support for Gavin Hay and Liam Ashby. They finished 13th of the 17 competing teams with a total of 893.
