Scots Pamela Feggans and Gemma Webster gave themselves a confidence-boost for the new women's pro golf season by finishing in the top 13 of the Terre Blanche Women's Open near Nice in the South of France today).
Pamela, from Patna in Ayrshire, was in contention when she birdied the seventh, short eighth and long ninth to be out in three-under 34 in her second and last round in the rain-shortened Ladies European Tour Access Series developmental competition.
But she bogeyed the short 11th and ran up a double bogey 6 at the 17th after a birdie at the 15th for two-over 38 home.
Rounds of 73 and 72 over the par-73 lay-out gave her a one-under-par total of 145 and an encouraging joint ninth finish in a field of 96 players. Pamela earnbed 898 Euros.
Gemma from Glasgow, a former Ohio State University student,
had her best tournament finish - joint 13th - for a long time with scores of 74 and 73 for one-over 147 for a payslip of 740 Euros. She birdied the short third, the long fourth, the fifth and long ninth in 35 to the turn. The flow of birdies ceased after the turn but seven pars and bogeys at the 12th and 13th got her home in two-over 38.
Former British women's amateur stroke-play champion Heather MacRae (Downfield), still looking to get that kind of performance as a pro, finished joint 74th with rounds of 78 and 82 for 14-over-par 160. She had double bogeys at the short 11th and long 13th but, after a birdie-less first round, she did get sub-par figures at the second, seventh and 12th.
Majorca-based Lauren Mackin, originally from the Central belt, had disappointing scores of 78 and 83 for 161 and a share of 76th place. She had doubel bogeys at the long ninth and par-4 15th.
Henrietta Zuel, 21-year-old Salisbury-born player who won the British girls title in 2007 when her surname was Brockway, won with a six-under-par total of 140, made up of rounds of 68 and 72. She earned 3,448 Euros.
She won by two shots from defending champion Caroline Alonso (France) who dropped four shots over the last three holes - bogey, double-bogey, bogey - in scores of 69 and 73. Earlier she had drawn level with Henrietta by birdieing the fifth sixth, eighth, ninth and 13th, reaching the turn in 33.
Zuel had birdies at the fifrst, second, seventand ninth, in 34 to the turn. She also dropped shots as the nerves jangled over the last few holes. Henrietta bogeyed the 16th and 18th.
