GAVIN HAY JOINT RUNNER-UP IN BEARCAT CLASSIC

Glasgow's Gavin Hay, a second-year student at Carson-Newman University, Jefferson City in Tennessee, finished joint second on Tuesday in the Lander Bearcat Classic at Greenwood Country Club, South Carolina.
The scheduled 54-hole tournament was cut to two rounds because of rain.
Hay, pictured right, had rounds of 69 and 71 for a total of four-under-par 140, on which mark there were four players, Hay, Ben Lown (Newberry), Jonathan McCurry (UNC-Pembroke) and Ryan Sevigny (Queens, Charleston).
Winner by two shots was Joe Young (Georgia College) with rounds of 70 and 68 for six-under 138.
Hay's Carson-Newman team-mate, Liam Ashby from Dublin, finished joint 10th on 144 with a pair of 72s.
Scott Lambert (UNC-Pembroke) from Northumberland, finished joint 34th on 148 with scores of 75 and 73.
Chris McManus (Clayton State) from Bearsden, Glasgow finished joint 38th on 149 with scores of 78 and 71.
A third Scot in the field of 90 players, Clark Nelson (Clayton State), a former student at Stirling University, had scores of 79 and 75 for 154, which earne him a share of 74th position.
UNC-Pembroke won the team title for their second March competition row. They finished with a total of 547, one shot ahead of Carson-Newman. Clayton State (600) tied for 14th place.

ANOTHER JOINT THIRD FINISH FOR STEVEN MAXWELL


Steven Maxwell from Glasgow, a senior (fourth year) student at Western New Mexico University, finished joint third for the second time in a row in March on the US men's college circuit.
Maxwell, pictured right, had rounds of 72, 71 and 72 for a total of one-under-par 215 over a longish course (7,228yd) with a par of 72.
Two Grand Canyon University students, Jacob Golembiewski (70-73-70) and Matt Fridey (72-70-71), finished joint first on 213. No word of a play-off.
Grand Canyon (871) also won the team title ahead of Chico State (879) with Western New Mexico (895) 6th of 17 teams.
+Richard Doherty from Bearsden, a student at Lindenwood University, St Charles, Missouri, finished joint 39th in a field of 96 players at the North Alabama Spring Classic at Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Richard had rounds of 80, 73 and 79 for a total of 232 over a long par-72 course (7126yd). Winner by two shots with a total of two-under 214 (73-70-71) was Jake Greer (North Alabama).
Lindenwood (906) finished fifth of 17 teams behind title winners North Alabama (873).

 PAUL FERRIER JT 13TH FINISH IN GEORGIA

Former Scottish boys' champion Paul Ferrier from Baberton, now a student at Charlotte University, North Carolina, finished joint 13th in a field of 75 at this week's Linger Longer Invitational men's college golf tournament at Great Waters Golf Club, Greensboro, Georgia.
Ferrier, pictured right, winner of the national Under-18 title in 2007, was joint second after a first-round, three-under-par 69 over a longish course (7073yd) but slipped back with subsequent rounds of 75 and 74 for a total of two-over 218.
Former Scottish schoolboys champion Chris Robb (Chattanooga) finished joint 32nd on 224 with scores of 74, 77 and 73.
Winner was the world-ranked Cory Whitsett (Alabama) with scores of 64, 68 and 71 for 13-under-par 203, finishing a shot ahead of team-mate Bud Cauley (72-65-67). The pair fo them finished six shots clear of the third-placed man.
Alabama (846) ran away with the team title. Chattanooga (864) were runners-up in a field of 13 teams.

ANGUS PAIR MAKE TOP TEN AT

MIDLAND, TEXASCarnoustie's Chris Bell and Jordan McColl from Dundee both finished in the top 10 of the Omega Midland College Invitational college golf tournament which ended on Tuesday at Green Tree Country Club, Midland, Texas
Bell, a freshman student at Odessa College, Texas, had scores of 71, 72 and 76 for a three-over-par total of 219 and a share of eighth place in a field of 49 players.
McColl, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, a member at Scotscraig Golf Club and a student at New Mexico Junior College, finished joint 10th with rounds of 78, 69 and 73 for 220.
James Kerr from Solihull, a student at Western Texas University, finished 21st on 223 with scores of 73, 74 and 76.
One of McColl's team-mates, Roberto Sebastian, was the winner with scores of 67, 65 and 76 for eight-under 208.
Odessa (857) won the team title ahead of New Mexico Junior College (870) and third-placed Western Texas (879) in a field of six teams.

HARROLD JT 9th, BALLINGALL JT 11th in LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS

Paisley-born Stuart Ballingall (Missouri University) went off the boil a bit in this week's University of Arkansas Little Rock First Tee Classic at Chenal Country Club, Little Rock.
He still finished a creditable joint 11th in a field of 93 players and helped Missouri to a third team win in a row.
Team-mate Jace Long won the individual honours by four shots with rounds of 71, 67 and 72 for six-under-par 210 over a long par-73 course of 7,326yd.
Another Missouri student, William Harrold (pictured) from St Albans, finished joint ninth on 221 with scores of 76, 72 and 73.
Ballingall was just outside the top ten with rounds of 74, 73 and 75 for 222.
Missouri (882) won the team title by eight shots from Louisville in a field of 17 teams.
