NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY BRAEMAR GOLF
Golf Club Zavidovo, PGA National (Russia) have signed a five-year sponsorship agreement with Russia’s leading lady professional golfer Maria Verchenova, who becomes one of the “faces” of the Zavidovo project.
The agreement reflects the general policy of the club to popularise the game of golf in Russia and to support talented Russian golfers into achieving their potential. With golf now back in the Olympics from 2016 it is Russia’s ambition to be well represented in golf at the Games and it is hoped that Maria will be flying the flag for the Russian ladies.
Maria, 25, started playing golf at the age of 12 and has won multiple Russian amateur championships as well as the amateur championships of the Czech Republic, Latvia, Slovenia and Austria. She has played on the Ladies European Tour since 2007 and has had two top 10 finishes to date.
Zavidovo President Alexander Yarunin said “We are delighted to support Maria to help her reach her potential. It is our dream to see Russian golfers at the forefront of European golf and we feel Maria will inspire the youth of Russia.”
“The club aims to develop an active family vacation resort and will welcome juniors to the facility. We see this as vitally important in the growth of the game in Russia and ensuring PGA National Russia and Zavidovo are a success” continued Yarunin.
Keith Haslam the Managing Director of Braemar Golf, who are responsible for the pre-opening and management of the new Zavidovo, PGA National Golf Club commented “This is fantastic news. From the onset we identified and discussed with Alexander the possibility of sponsoring Maria and I am delighted it has become a reality.
