+The late, great Helen Holm is pictured in action in her heyday.

Colin Farquharson writes: The younger generation of Scottish golfers might wonder who Helen Holm was and why her name is perpetuated in a national tournament.
The short answer is that Helen Holm was one of the outstanding Scottish golfers of the 20th Century. Here is her glorious golfing career in a nutshell:
Helen played in the Curtis Cup matches of 1936, 1938 and 1948. She turned down further appearances when her son Michael was born.
Mrs Holm, who was born on March 14, 1907 in Glasgow, won the British women's open amateur championship twice - in 1934 and again in 1938.
She won her way through to TEN finals of the Scottish women's amateur championship over a span of 27 years.
She won the title in 1930, 1932, 1937, 1948 and 1950.
She lost in the finals of 1933 (beaten by M J Couper at the 22nd), 1938 (beaten by Jessie Anderson, Valentine to be), 1949 (beaten by Jean Donald), 1956 (beaten by Jessie Valentine) and 1957 (beaten by Marigold Spier).
But for the World War II (1939-45) years, Helen would surely have won many more championships.
She was a member of several golf clubs over the years but was most closely associated with Ladies Golf Club Troon, who have hosted the Helen Holm Scottish women's open amateur stroke-play championship since the club inaugurated the tournament in 1973 as the "Helen Holm Trophy" - one of her clubs is mounted as the distinctive trophy. The Scottish Ladies Golf Association later took over the organisation of the event.
Helen died in Ayr on December 14, 1971 at the age of 64.
