KIRSTY MAKES TOP 50 IN KINDERLOU FOREST CHALLENGE

Kirsty Rands (Augusta State University) from Surrey finished in joint 50th position in a field of 74 players at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, Valdosta, Georgia this week.
Kirsty, pictured, had ever-improving rounds of 83, 81 and 75 for a total of 239 over a par-73 course of 6,359yd.
She had a double bogey in her first round, and a triple and double bogey in her second round.
Kirsty's team-mate Casey Kennedy won by one shot with scores of 72, 74 and 72 for 218 but Augusta State did not win the team title.
That went to Chattanooga whose women's head coach is a Scot, Colette Murray.
Chattanooga (896) won from Coastal Carolina (905) with Augusta State (904) third of 14 teams.

KEVIN PHELAN MAKES TOP 20 AT SAWGRASS

Irish student Kevin Phelan (North Florida), pictured left, from Waterford was the highest finishing British and Irish player in the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club.
Kevin, a Walker Cup team place contender, had rounds of 71, 76 and 73 for a total of 220 over the par-72, 6,960yd course. He was placed joint 17th in the field of 85 players.
Tennessee University's Darren Renwick from Woking and Garrick Porteous from Bamburgh Castle finished joint 21st and joint 26th respectively. Darren scored 76, 70 and 76 for 222, one shot fewer that Garrick who had rounds of 74, 76 and 73.
A third English-born student, Gavin Frost (Jacksonville University) from Berkshire shared 31st place on 224, made up of scores of 74, 73 and 77.
Jason Shufflebottam (University of Alabama-Birmingham) from Prestatyn in Wales, finished joint 68th on 233 with rounds of 79, 79 and 75.
Philip Choi (University of Florida) won the individual title by three shots with rounds of 68, 71 and 70 for a seven-under-par total of 209.
Arkansas (867) won the team title ahead of Auburn (869) and Louisiana State (871). North Florida, with a total of 904, finished 12th in a field of 15 teams.
