LGU VOLUNTEERS - A VALUED ASSET
They also serve who only stand and wait.
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE LADIES GOLF UNION
The Ladies’ Golf Union announces the launch of its LGU Volunteer Club in recognition of the invaluable contribution made to its championships, matches and teams every year by a range of enthusiastic fans of ladies’ golf.
Like all golfing organisations, the LGU is heavily dependent on volunteers - in the week of the Ricoh Women’s British Open alone, over 450 supporters volunteer to help out as scorers, marshals and in a multitude of other roles, and this commitment is replicated at the top amateur events and international matches, such as the Curtis Cup and the forthcoming Astor Trophy and Vagliano Trophy matches.
The LGU’s CEO, Shona Malcolm, said “The dedication of committed volunteers is vital to the success of the top golfing events presented by the LGU. While we can never fully compensate our volunteers for their time and enthusiasm, we are keen to show how much we value their contributions to the game of golf and to the LGU’s events in particular.”
Anyone who has helped out in previous LGU events, or who volunteers at one of the LGU’s 2011 championships or matches, will be eligible to register as a member of the LGU Volunteer Club on http://www.lguvolunteer.org/
In return, volunteers will initially receive a specially commissioned tee bag and LGU Volunteer badge, access to discounted tickets for the 2011 Ricoh Women’s British Open at Carnoustie and the 2012 Curtis Cup at Nairn, and special rates on the use of the LGU flat in St Andrews, which can be made available for short breaks throughout the year.

“The LGU acknowledges that although volunteers do not seek reward, they do appreciate and are deserving of recognition” said Malcolm. “The LGU Volunteer Club is the start of a process aimed at providing that recognition and enhancing the volunteer experience.”
Volunteering opportunities currently exist at the forthcoming Astor Trophy matches, to be played at Fairhaven Golf Club from 15 to19 June between competing teams from Great Britain and Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa.
