Ireland's Lisa Maguire, from the Slieve Russell club, Co Cavan, won the Spanish international women's amateur championship at Sherry Golf (Jerez) this morning.
Seventeenth of the 32 qualifiers for the match-play stages, Lisa beat the No 6 seed, France's Emilie Alonso, by one hole in the 18-hole final to win the Queen's Cup.
So what a magnificent early-season Continental double for the 16-year-old Maguire twins - Leona won the Portuguese international women's amateur championship, decided on four rounds of stroke-play, at the end of January.
Leona was No 5 in the new Women's World Amateur Rankings last week while Lisa was No 33. Lisa is likely to be a lot closer to her twin after the revised rankings are issued next week.
Both twins play off +3.5 and were members of the GB and Ireland Curtis Cup team in America last summer and both are certainties to be in the line-up for the Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe at Royal Porthcawl GC in June.
Alonso, one of the top players in Europe, will be in the Continental side.
Lisa continued her magnificent week long form in the final and matched her French opponent to turn all square. Lisa edged ahead to take a one-hole lead to the 16th tee and closing out the tie on the home green. She thus avenged the quarter-final defeat of Leona by Alonso in the quarter-finals.
Lisa won the Irish women's (closed) amateur championship in 2009. The same year she won the Irish women's open amateur championship.
Final (18 holes)
Lisa Maguire (Ireland) bt Emilie Alonso (France) 1 hole.
