CHARLOTTE ELLIS ENGLAND'S TOP WOMEN'S AMATEUR IN 2010
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE EWGA
Gloucestershire’s Charlotte Ellis was recognised at the annual meeting of the English Women’s Golf Association as the country’s top amateur for 2010.
Charlotte, an England international from Minchinhampton, won the EWGA order of merit, sponsored by the golf tour operator Lorrin Golf.
Her achievement reflected her performance in a year when she was the top home player in the English strokeplay championship, finishing runner-up overall, and a semi-finalist in both the English championship and the English mid-amateur.
She was unable to attend the meeting to accept her trophy because she was preparing to play next week’s Ladies European Tour event in Morocco, but she was represented by Gloucestershire president Di Honey.
Charlotte’s message to the meeting said: “I am thrilled to have won this award and would like to thank Lorrin Golf for continuing to sponsor it. I would like to thank EWGA and my county, Gloucestershire, for their support because, without it, it would be much more difficult to continue to play in these fantastic events around the country. It’s their generosity that has enabled me to achieve my goals and to win this title.”
Di Honey, who accepted the trophy on Charlotte’s behalf, told the meeting: “All of us in Gloucestershire are very proud of Charlotte and her successes and we wish her a lot more success in her career in the coming years.”
