PAMELA FEGGANS LEADING SCOT IN SOUTHERN FRANCE
Pamela Feggans from Patna, Ayrshire was the best placed Scot at the end of the first round of the weather-hit Terre Blanche Ladies Open golf tournament in southern France.
Pamela matched the par of 73 over a sodden course - the tournament was reduced from three to two rounds when Wednesday's play was washed out by a second day of nonstop rain.
Feggans will start the second and last round in joint 11th place but should have been in the top 10 because she double-bogeyed the short 11th and also the 16th. On the credit side she birdied the long ninth, the 12th and short 13th in halves of 36 (one under par) and 37 (one over).
Glasgow's Gemma Webster, who spent four years playing the US college circuit as an Ohio State University student, is sharing 18th place on 74. She took had a double bogey, at the 17th after earlier dropping shots at the fourth and 16th. But she did birdie three holes in an outward, two-under-par 35 - the second, short eighth and long ninth.
Majorca-based amateur Lauren Mackin, originally from Central Scotland, shot a five-over par 78 to be in joint 57th place. She had a good run of birdies over the long sixth, short eighth and ninth but that only cancelled out bogeys at the second, third and fifth in a par 37 to the turn.
The inward half cost Mackin 41 shots - five over par - with a double bogey at the 16th and bogeys at the short 11th, short 14th and 17th.
Downfield's Heather MacRae is also on the 78 mark after a birdie-less, frustrating day in which she bogeyed the first, fifth, 13th, 16th and 17th in halves of 39.
Former British girls champion Henrietta Zuel leads the field in this Ladies European Tour Access Series developmental competitionwith a five-under par 68, one shot ahead of title-holder Caroline Afonso (France).
