ROSS EARNSHAW LEADS THE BRITS AT BARTON INTERCOLLEGIATE

Ross Earnshaw (Post University, Connecticut) from York finished as the leading British student in the Pizza Inn Barton Intercollegiate men's tournament at Wilson Country Club, Wilson in North Carolina over a par-72, 6851yd course.
Freshman Ross, pictured right, had rounds of 76 and 71 for 147 whicih earned him a share of ninth place in a field of 84 - a very good effort.
Belmont Abbey College's Peter Tarver Jones from Worthing and Adam Hedges from Bromley finished joint 12th and joint 17th respectively. Tarver Jones scored 77 and 72 for 149 and Hedges 73-78 for 151.
Scot David McGregor from Helensburgh, in his closing months after four years as a Post University student, finished joint 37th on 155 with scores of 79 and 76. Bobby McGregor's son would have been disappointed with that.
Another Post Uni student, Thomas Rees from Cardiff, scored 83 and 74 for 157 and jt 42nd place.
Darren Smith from Arcot Hall, Northumberland (Barton College) finished on the same 157 mark with 80 and 77.
One of Darren's team-mates with an Irish-sounding name, Dermot McElhennon, showed the way by winning the individual title by a massive eight strokes. He had a terrific first round of eight-under-par 64 and tagged on a 71 for a nine-under total of 135.
Runner-up was John Frisby (Belmont Abbey College) with 72-71 for 143.
McElhennon's effort spearheaded Barton College (585) to an eight-shot victory from runners-up Mount Olive College (593) with Balmont Abbey College (594) just pipped for second place. There were 15 teams in the field and Post (616) came 10th.
