TOP EGWA AWARDS FOR HAYLEY - BUT SHE'S IN AMERICA

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATIONDorset teenager and English champion Hayley Davis scooped two top awards for the 2010 season, which were presented at the annual meeting of the English Women’s Golf Association
Hayley was the winner of the English girls’ order of merit, sponsored by the golf tour operator Lorrin Golf; and of EWGA’s Silver Tee award, sponsored by gold and silversmith Andrew McGowan.
The 18-year-old won the Silver Tee award for the way she combines her golf and her education – and she was unable to accept either trophy in person because she was in the USA visiting universities.

Hayley, who studies at Brockenhurst College, Hampshire, won the 2010 English championship at her first attempt at the age of 17. She went on to represent England ladies and was also a member of the winning England team at the Girls’ Home Internationals.
She was represented at the EWGA annual meeting by Dorset president Jackie Wilson, who accepted the awards on her behalf.
Hayley’s message to the meeting said: “I am really disappointed not to be able to collect my awards. I would like to say how proud I am to win the junior order of merit and how privileged I am to win by doing something I love so much.” Referring to the Silver Tee, she spoke of her pleasure in “being recognised for continuing to study and being able to practise my favourite thing in the world: my golf. How lucky I am!
“The reason why golf is so enjoyable is largely due to the people you meet along the way. I have made some fantastic friends on the golf course, both young and not so young.” She paid tribute to her parents, her coaches and her mentors and concluded: “I can’t thank EWGA, my club and my county enough for their support.”
