ABERDEEN GIRL WINS BY SIX SHOTS ON LEADBETTER JUNIOR TOUR

Gemma Dryburgh
FROM COLIN FARQUHARSON
US-based Aberdeen teenager Gemma Dryburgh scored a six-stroke win in the latest IMG David Leadbetter Junior Tour this week - despite taking 45 putts in her first round!
Gemma, who is a student at the IMG Leadbetter Golf Academy in Bradenton Florida and who will enrole at Tulane University, New Orleans in the autumn, had rounds of 79 and 74 for a total of 153 in the 36-hole girls' section of the tournament at North Hampton, Jacksonville.
Very fast, sun-baked sloping greens caused all the competitors in the international field big problems but Gemma managed to stay in contention on the opening day despite numerous three putts and then, having come to terms with the pace of the greens, she  forged clear with a 74 in the second round.
She won by six shots from Nicole Ferre (Venezuela) (80-79 for 159) who finished a stroke ahead of third-placed Lisa Kang (Hawaii) (83-77).
