GERMANY CALLING! RACHAEL TAYLOR TOP LANARKSHIRE SEED
Airdrie-born but Germany-based Rachael Taylor today headed the 16 qualifiers for the match-play stages of the Lanarkshire women’s county golf championship at Strathaven Golf Club.
Club professional's daughter Rachael, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, who has been flying over to play in SLGA events for the past year or two, had a gross round of 75, including an eagle 3 at the 16th and birdies at the eighth and 10th. She also had a triple bogey 6 at the short ninth and bogeys at the second, 13th and 14th.
Lesley Lloyd (Hayston) also had a 75 but teenager Rachael, a Scotland girl international, earned the No 1 seeding by virtue of having the better inward half.Lesley had birdies at the sixth, seventh and 12th but also had a double bogey at the 15th and further shots dropped at the third, ninth and 18th.
Defending champion Fiona Norris (Hamilton) was the third best qualifier with a 76.
Fiona Scott (Bothwell Castle), who finished with a 79, had a hole in one at the fourth.
Lorna Laidlaw (Drumpellier) had the day's best net score of 70 off a handicap of nine.
The leading qualifier in the Bronze Division was Agnes McCall (Strathaven), with a gross 96.
