NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Ireland’s Lisa Maguire and Germany’s Quirine Eijkenboom lead the inaugural Irish U18 Strokeplay Championship on six under par at Knightsbrook Hotel Spa and Golf Resort in Co. Meath with 18 holes to play.
Lisa added a solid two under par 71 to her opening 69 to join Eijkenboom at the top of the leaderboard. Birdies on the fourth, eight, tenth and seventeenth saw her sign for a two under par afternoon round, having also carded four birdies earlier that morning. Eijkenboom matched Lisa in both rounds and both will be joined by France’s talented Manon Gidali, who trails the leaders by just one stroke.
The penultimate threeball of Linnea Strom (SWE), Karolin Lampert (GER) and Celine Boutier (FRA) lie another shot further back heading into Sunday's final round.
Leona Maguire, who added a 74 to her opening 70, will be joined by French internationals Perrine Delacour (FRA) and Emilie Alonso in the third last grouping, teeing off at 10.30am.
In the Nations Cup, France beat Ireland by one stroke with France and Germany following close behind.
Lisa currently leads the PJSC rankings followed by Emilie Alonso (FRA), Leona, Noemi Jimenez Martin (ESP), Emma Nilsson (SWE) and Antonia Scherer (GER). Six of the top nine players with PJSC ranking points are in action.
The 72 competitors will play a further 18 holes this afternoon with the top 60 players qualifying for the final round on Sunday.
