DOROTHY MARSHALL REPORTS:
Northern Counties LGA secretary
It was a bit windy with the occasional shower today at Fortrose, subsequently the scores were not fantastic. The CSS was 75, making it "Reduction Only". Apparently the greens were rather fast which caught a lot of the players out. Eleanor Tunn, the young lassie from Reay, beat Jenny Milne from Elgin with the better inward half after they had headed the match-play qualifiers with 81s.
Eleanor was a bit disappointed with her front nine only making three pars and the rest bogeys. Although she had a double bogey on the 11th she managed a birdie on th 14th and parred her way in from there.
Jenny, on the other hand, had five pars out with one double bogey and four back.
It was difficult to separate Mary Smith and Anne Ryan as they both had 42 out and 40 back and it came down to the last three holes and Mary beat Anne on countback.
Mary had two birdies on the back nine and Anne had one. Gillian Dowling from Nairn also had an 82 with two birdies on the front nine and one on the back but she went out in 40 and back in 42.
Playing off 10, Dorothy Lloyd from Dornoch did well to come fifth scratch with a gross 83, managing to card two birdies on the front nine. Lynne Fraser from Fortrose (also the NCLGA vice-captain) had an 8 on the sixth and a 7 on the 16th which ruined her card as she had birdies on the 11th, 15th and 18th.
