As the Scottish Golf Union and the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association move closer to amalgamation, with the men's English Golf Union and the English Women's Golf Association on the same route - and the Welsh Golf Union already a merger between the men and women's ruling bodies, perhaps mixed general international teams are the way ahead.
Scotland will field three such teams in the Nations Cup section of this weekend's Fairhaven Trophies junior 54-hole stroke-play tournament at the Fairhaven Golf Club, Lancashire.
SCOTLAND 1
Grant Forrest (Craigielaw), Liam Johnston (Dumfries and Co), Lauren Whyte (St Regulus).
SCOTLAND 2
Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie), Lawrence Allan (Alva), Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies).
SCOTLAND 3
Anthony Blaney (Liberton), Greg Marchbank (Dumfries and Galloway), Tara McTaggart (Minto).
The Scots' opposition in the Nations Cup field includes three teams from England, three from Germany, two from Wales and one each from Finland and Switzerland.
