Chloe Williams, pictured, made the most of perfect scoring conditions at Strathmore Golf Centre in scoring a two under par round of 70 in the first round of the SLGA Under 16 Open Stroke Play Championship today.
Starting from the 10th tee, the two- handicapper from Wrexham Golf Club birdied three holes in a row from the 14th and then birdied the sixth hole to be 4 under par with three holes to play.
A four-putt double bogey on the seventh hole and another bogey on the 8th brought her back to one under par with one to play but she bounced back to birdie the 9th (her 18th) to finish at 2 under par for the day.
Bronte Law (Bramhall) is two shots off the lead after a level par 72 with Heather Munro (Monifieth), Amber Ratcliffe (Royal Cromer), Kyra Horlock (Broadstone) and Nia Greville (Ashburnham) two shots further back after 74's.
It's all to play for in the team event with Wales and England 1 both on 146, Scotland 1 on 150 and Scotland 2 on 151.
A total of 24 players bettered the course par of 72 with their net scores so there was no surprise that the CSS came down from 73 to 72. The lowest nett score of the day was carded by Ellie Bryce (Strathaven) who scored a net 64 off her handicap of 27.

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE LADIES GOLF UNION
The Ladies Golf Union's Great Britain and Ireland Selection Committee is in attendance at the SLGA Under-16 girls' open amateur stroke-play championship at Strathmore Golf Centre.
They are taking the opportunity to view all the up and coming talent and to view some of the players who may be in the frame for the GB and I Under-16s team of six to play against Europe at Royal Porthcawl on June 24-25.
If any players or parents wish any advice they are welcome to talk with the selectors at any time at Strathmore.
The GB and I Vagliano Teams (adult and junior) will be chosen on Saturday, May 28.
Said Tegwen Matthews, the GB and I team captain and chairman of selection:
"It is hugely encouraging for GB and I golf to see so many Under-16 players with not only technically sound and powerful golf swings but with a mature and intelligent approach to their course management.
"It can only augur well for the future of both present and future golf teams.”
