Ailsa Summers won the Angus women's county championship at Panmure Barry Golf Club today for the third year running by beating Claire Penman by 5 and 4 in a repeat of last year's all-Carnoustie Ladies final. Ailsa, who lost in the recent Angus girls championship final, was in scintillating form in this one. She was two under par for the first nine holes by which time she had built up a six-hole lead. Further birdies by Ailsa at the 10th and 13th saw her win on the 14th green. Claire was not totally outgunned by any means. She had birdies of her own at the seventh, 10th and 13th but could not recover from losing the first six holes of the final. In the morning semi-finals, Ailsa had knocked out the No 1 seed, Lynne Fenton, also of Carnoustie Ladies, by 5 and 4. The handicap championship final ended in a 3 and 2 win by Angela Campbell over Ruth Adamson. Both were playing over their home course at Panmure Barry. Today's results: Semi-finals - Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie Ladies) bt Lynne Fenton (Carnoustie Ladies) 5 and 4; Claire Penman (Carnoustie Ladies) bt Ashley Smith (Monifieth) 3 and 2. Final - Summers bt Penman 5 and 4.
