BATHGATE GIANT-KILLER CUT DOWN TO SIZE IN NEXT ROUND

Mhairi Hall (Bathgate), conqueror of the No 1 seed in the first round of the Stirling and Clackmannan women's county golf championship, was herself cut down to size in tonight's quarter-finals at Falkirk Tryst Golf Club. She was beaten 2 and 1 by 17-year-old Alexis Hutton (Falkirk Tryst), last year's junior county champion. In Wednesday evening's semi-finals, Hutton will play Jill Harrison (Linlithgow), the 2009 county champion and a 4 and 3 winner over the No 4 seed Margaret Tough (Falkirk). The second semi-final will be contested by the No 3 seed, Louise MacGregor (Falkirk), the defending champion, and the No 2 seed, Laure Bissertt (Braehead). MacGregor was a 5 and 3 winner over Elaine Allison (Stirling) while Bissett, 22, reached the last four for the first time with a one-hole victory over Claire Capocci (Bridge of Allan). Play in the quarter-finals  had to be suspended for 20 minutes due to a thunderstorm. Results: Quarter-finals Alexis Hutton (Falkirk Tryst) bt Mhairi Hall (Bathgate) 2 and 1.
