GEMMA DRYBURGH FOURTH IN LAST UNDER-18 TOURNAMENT
US-based Aberdeen girl Gemma Dryburgh has played her last tournament as an IMG Leadbetter Academy student at the Power Balance Tour Championship at the Ritz Carlton Course in Bradenton, Florida. It was also her last as a 17 year old as she will turn 18 in two weeks time.
John Dryburgh writes: "Gemma didn’t swing particularly well but managed a credible fourth place with a 75 and 74 for a five-over-par total of 149 on a tough course. Had she been in the final three-ball she might have done better."
The tournament was won by Kelly Tan from Malaysia. She scored 75-70 for one-over-145 and pipped Lisa Kang (Hawaii) who also totalled 145 with rounds of 74 and 71.
Mika Liu (US) was third on 147 (74-73).
Gemma's father adds:
"Unfortunately the USGA haven’t included the Leadbetter Junior Tour in their WAGR counting competitions and despite finishing first and fourth in her last two tournaments Gemma has fallen out of the top world 500 and she is likely to fall further behind in June until she starts playing the ranked tournaments at home. Hopefully she will get right back up their over the summer months."
Gillian enrols at Tulane University, New Orleans in the autumn.
