HAMPSHIRE TRIO WIN NATIONAL ROSESPOON AWARD
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCAITION
Three Hampshire players – including a mother and daughter - have capped a month of success with wins in the first EWGA Silver Rosespoon Awards of 2011.
The Silver Rosespoons are awarded to the club golfers who return the best strokeplay competition scores in the country during each month of the playing season. Spoons go to the winners of four handicap divisions and for the best gross score. Elaine Barrow, the Hampshire junior organiser from Brokenhurst Manor, her daughter Charlotte, 14, and another county junior, Kirsty MCulloch,13, of Stoneham, are among those who have been successful in the awards for April.
Elaine won the Rosespoon for the best gross score of the month with a 69, which was four-under the scratch score at Brokenhurst Manor, where she and Charlotte are both members.
The girls both won their spoons for scores returned during the Hampshire junior championship at Brokenhurst Manor. Charlotte won the overall girls’ championship, helped by a superb first round of 72, net 67, which was six under the SS. Kirsty, who was playing off 33, won the cup for the higher handicappers with 52 stableford points having returned a remarkable gross 89, net 56 – 17 under SS.
Earlier in April, Elaine and Charlotte Barrow won the prestigious Mothers and Daughters scratch foursomes at Royal Mid-Surrey.
April Silver Rosespoon winners:
Division I (up to 10 handicap)
Charlotte Barrow (Brokenhurst Manor), handicap 5, who scored net 67, 6-under the SS of 73
Anita Prosser (Porters Park), handicap 8, who scored net 67, 6-under the SS of 73
Division 2 (11-20)
Poppy Holt (Harrogate), handicap 19, who scored 46 stableford points, 11-under the SS of 73
Division 3 (21-30)
Molly Doyle (Harpenden Common), handicap 28, who scored 48 stableford points, 13-under the SS of 72
Division 4 (31-36)
Kirsty McCulloch (Stoneham), handicap 33, who scored 52 stableford points, 17-under the SS of 73
