Danielle McVeigh (Royal Co. Down Ladies) in devastating form reaches her first Lancome Women's Close final and will play Carlow's Karen Delaney.....


The Lancome Irish Women's Close Championship final will start at 10am on Wednesday 25th May

Ita Wallace Trophy - Plate Final
Hannah Henderson (Ballyclare) bt Tara Gribben (Warrenpoint) on 19th


Hannah Henderson once again came from behind to claim the Ita Wallace trophy. Tara Gribben had birdies at the 5th and 9th and was 4up after 12 but Hannah true to form had birdies at 14, 16 and 17 and the match was level playing 18. Both players halved the 18th in pars but Hannah had the momentum and went to win the first tie hole.

Karen Delaney (Carlow) bt Deirdre Smith (Co. Louth) 2&1
Charlene Reid (Royal Portrush) lost to Patrice Delaney (Birr) 1up
Louise Mernagh (Woodenbridge) lost to Danielle McVeigh (RCDL) 6&4
Aedin Murphy (Carlow) lost to Eileen Rose Power (Kilkenny) 1up


Semi Finals
Karen Delaney continued her impressive form and progressed into the final. Karen was 4up after 9 with birdies at the 8th and 9th. Patrice reduced the deficit to three by winning the 10th hole and then birdied the 14th to be only 2 adrift. Karen regained her composure and won the 15th and with both players having birdies on the 16th Karen secured her place in the final much to the delight of the home crowd.
Danielle once again in devastating form was 2up on three times past champion Eileen Rose Power by the 7th and with a birdie 3 on the 9th she went 3up. Eileen Rose was unlucky to find water on the 10th and by the 14th Danielle was dormie 5 and won the match 5&4.


Quarter Finals
Karen Delaney started well and was 4up at the turn. Deirdre Smith reduced the deficit to 2 holes but Karen maintained her excellent form to win on the 17th. Karen was happy with her game and said the key to her game was par golf and putting well on tricky greens.
Patrice Delaney (Birr) got her quarter final affair against Charlene Reid off to a great chip-in birdie start to go 1up. Charlene got her own back on the par 4 10th holing her 2nd shot. Patrice was 1up throughout much of the back nine but Charlene levelled the match with a birdie on 17. Patrice not to be outdone answered with a birdie win on the 18th and will take on Karen in this afternoons semi final.
Danielle McVeigh (RCDL) made a blistering start to her quarter final match against Louise Mernagh (Woodenbridge). An albatross at the par 5 first hole, holing her second shot with a 3 wood. She went on to birdie the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th to be 7 under after 7 holes. Mernagh had no chance to reply as Danielle went on to birdie and close out the match on the 14th. Danielle admitted “golf was good today” and she had a great caddie with O’Leary on the bag.
Eileen Rose Power (Kilkenny) although 2 down after 12 maintained her composure and eventually levelled her match against a well supported Aedin Murphy (Carlow) with a birdie on the 17th. On the last, Aedin pulled her 2nd shot into the trees to return a bogey which left Eileen Rose with a par to win the match and set up a semi final contest against Danielle McVeigh.
