THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD ELLA WINS HERTFORDSHIRE CHAMPIONSHIP

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Thirteen-year-old Ella Ofstedahl became one of England’s youngest-ever county champions when she won the Hertfordshire title.
What’s more she beat another 13-year-old in the final at Moor Park, defeating English U13 champion Alice Hewson by 3 and 2.
Ella, a member at Mill Green, trains with EWGA’s Super Birdies South East Squad; Alice, from Berkhamsted, is in EWGA’s Select South East Squad.
Ella knocked out top qualifier Steph McEvoy (Old Fold Manor) in the semi-finals, while Alice defeated defending champion Alison Franklin (Harpenden). Both girls won by the margin of 2 and 1.

The final was another close match and with two birdies apiece on the front nine the players were all square at the halfway stage. However Ella played the more consistent golf over the back nine and eventually won 3&2.

Alice Hewson returned the best net score in qualifying and won the Anne Pyke Trophy for the second year in a row.

Ella Ofstedahl celebrated her birthday at the end of September, making her 13 years and seven months. Back in 2008, Wiltshire’s Hannah Turland also won her county championship when she was 13, but her birthday falls in June and so she was slightly older.
