Warwickshire golfers Ann Bache and teenager Lauren Taylor have played their way into the record books with three stunning holes-in-one.
Ann, a member at Edgbaston, bagged two of them in the course of one round. Meanwhile Lauren, an England girl international, had an ace when making her debut appearance on the Ladies’ European Tour.
Ann, a 21-handicapper, was playing in the Edgbaston qualifying round of the PING Four-ball, better-ball tournament when she aced the 139yd third hole and followed up with another on the 119yd seventh.
Ann plays with PING clubs and used a six-iron for the first hole-in-one and a seven-iron for the second. “It was unbelievable,” she said.
England girl international Lauren Taylor, pictured by her dad Martin, who lives in Rugby, made a memorable debut on the Ladies European Tour in the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open at Gray Bear Golf Club.
The 16-year-old, whose home club is Woburn, had an eagle on the par-five fourth hole and then another eagle at the next when she aced the par-3 fifth, using a four-iron. It was Lauren’s seventh hole-in-one and she remarked: “Everyone was telling me it was the way to make a statement!
“It was awesome. I’d just chipped in for eagle and then I holed in one. I just couldn’t believe it. I wanted to hit a five-iron but my dad persuaded me to hit a four.”
Martin Taylor was Lauren’s caddie for the tournament.
She finished the first round with a score of two over 74 and added a second round 77 to just miss the cut by one shot. Lauren had taken her place in the event after travelling out to Gray Bear Golf Club for a practice round and winning the two-day qualifier.
“I went to get experience because it’s what I want to do eventually and overall I was encouraged, although I was gutted at first when I missed the cut,” said Lauren, whose final putt horseshoed out of the hole. “My long game was the best it’s been all year but I couldn’t buy a putt.”
Former England international Rachel Jennings of Staffordshire led for the first two rounds and eventually finished third for her best result so far in her rookie year. The championship, which was reduced to 54-holes because of bad weather, was won by Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall.
