BOYD QUAICH DRAWS STUDENTS WORLDWIDE TO ST ANDREWS
Some 72 elite student golfers from around the world, representing approximately 40 different academic institutions, will be in St Andrews next week for the 63rd Boyd Quaich Memorial Golf Tournament.
The event, traditionally staged over the Old and New courses, will take place over four rounds of stroke-play from Tuesday to Thursday, July 5 to 7.
The standard of entrant is again very high with half the field having a handicap of 1 or better at the time of entry.
Last year’s winner was Sean Morrison from Francis Marion University in the Although Sean is not defend his title, there will be two representatives from Francis Marion trying to emulate his win.
There will also be participants from Australia, Canada, South Africa and other parts of the United States as well as the usual cohort from the UK and Europe.
The Boyd Memorial Quaich is named after the Boyd brothers, Quentin and Anthony, both St Andrews students who died during World War II.
Among the Scottish entrants this year are Daniel Sommerville (Dundee), Bobby Rushford (Stirling), Euan Brown (Strathclyde), Graeme Robertson (Stirling), Jonathan Corke (St Andrews), Steven Smith (Heriot-Watt), Sean Fothernghame (St Andrews), David Calder (Edinburgh), Malcolm Pennycott (Heriot-Watt), Ben Gibson (Strathclyde) and Conor Finlay (Dundee).
