LINDA URQUHART WINS NORTHERN DIVISION VETS' TITLE
Leading prizewinners at the SVLGA Northern Division championship at Deeside.
The SVLGA Northern Division held their championship at Deeside on June 6 and 7. The qualifying scores, considering the benign weather conditions and beautiful condition of the course, were, in the main, relatively high with only a handful of people playing to their potential.
The winner of the championship was Banchory's Linda Urquhart Banchory who beat Heather Backhouse (Ballater) 6 and 5 in the final.
In the morning semi-finals, Heather beat defending champion Lynne Terry (Cruden Bay) 5 and 3 and Linda beat Jill Harrison 4 and 3.
Linda, who has previously won the Aberdeenshire county championship three times and been a county team member of 25years' standing, has only just become eligible to play in the veterans' championship this year.
She now goes forward to Blairgowrie in the autumn to play the other divisional
champions.
The Bronze championship was won by Rachael McLean (Cruden Bay) who beat Fiona Byrnes (Banchory) by one hole.
The Silver Handicap was won by Margaret Parkinson (Deeside) who beat Ruth Burnett (Aberdeen Ladies) 3 and 2.
