McELROY AND JONES IN IRISH SENIOR WOMEN'S SEMI-FINALS

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Defending champion Sheena McElroy (Grange) and Seniors’ Open stroke-play champion Helen Jones (Strabane) progressed to the semi-finals of the Irish senior women’s close championship at Adare Manor Golf Club.
After leading the qualifiers in the morning, McElroy saw off No 8 qualifier Marilyn Henderson (Royal Belfast) on the penultimate green while second seed Helen Jones (Strabane) ended the hopes of Catherine Reilly (The Heath) on the 14th.
Pat Doran (Donabate) progressed, thanks to a final hole victory over Violet McBride (Belvoir Park) while Headfort’s Pauline Walsh booked the fourth semi final berth by defeating Suzanne Corcoran (Portumna) on 17.

ILGU Chief Executive Sinead Heraty (Castle) will meet Mary Madden (Ballinasloe) in the first semi-final of the Plate while Gertie McMullen (The Island) will play Gemma Butler (Birr) in the other half.
