SOPHIE KEECH WINS ENGLISH SCHOOLGIRLS' CHAMPIONSHIP

Dorset’s Sophie Keech won the English schoolgirls’ championship at Belton Park Golf Club in Lincolnshire on a day when the ladies’ course record was broken three times.
Gloucestershire’s Shelby Smart started the ball rolling with a two-under par 71 in the morning round, which knocked two shots off the old record. Defending champion Meghan MacLaren of Northamptonshire bettered it with a 70 in the afternoon.
Finally, Sophie Keech went one better with a four-under par 69. The Lyme Regis player, who was representing Millfield School, Somerset, added it to her first round 72 for a five-under total and a two-shot win, ahead of Meghan and Shelby. All three train with EWGA squads.
It was a low-scoring day with the top three players all under par for 36 holes and a total of nine sub-par scores returned during the day.
The boys’ event was won by Jamie Bower from Yorkshire who shot 72 in the morning and a course record 64 in the afternoon. He had a back nine of six-under par 29.
