REPORT BY ELLIE WHYTE, Captain, Aberdeenshire Ladies County Golf Association
Deeside was a perfect venue for this event with its lovely course, splendid clubhouse and scenic view of its signature 18th hole.
It was a memorable day with everyone decked out in their very best county yellow and the buzz of excitement as the ladies chose their hickory club on the 1st tee was hilarious, as were some of the tee shots.
There was a most impressive Fly Past from the Red Arrows in the afternoon but to be honest the organising committee couldn’t really take credit for that.
Players from 28 clubs took part and the competition was played as a team format, four-ball, better nett ball, with just one score to count at each hole.
The golf was fun, tactical and some of the scoring was fantastic.
During the round there were plenty of spot prizes for Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive. In fact, on the 17th, the longest drive had to be made with a giant size long driver which gave rise to not only to some surprisingly long drives but also some fresh air shots – oops!
Our sincere thanks go to Deeside for hosting the event and giving us courtesy of the course and to many clubs and sponsors for their generous donation of prizes.
