CANADA WIN JOHN CLARK TROPHY AGAIN AT ST ANDREWS

St. Andrews – CJGA Team Canada claimed its second John Clark trophy in three years on Friday at the Euro Junior Golf Cup in Fife. It was Canada’s fifth title since the tournament format changed in 2005. IJGT Team USA edged out Scotland by one point to finish in second place.
The day started with the Boys 14 and Under division where Logan Yanick, 14, of Courtnay, BC finished the tournament undefeated, closing out Ewan Diston of Scotland on hole 16 and finished his match with American Joe Rueter all squared.
During a stretch of three holes Yanick had two birdies and one eagle. “The skills I learned at training camp last week really help me with my mental and physically approach” said Yanick. “I hope to build on this experience for the remainder of the season.”
In the Girls division Emily Romkey, 16, of Fall River, NS went a perfect six for six in her matches for the tournament. “I’m really happy with how I performed this week and I’m glad we came away with the win” said Romkey. Romkey also played for CJGA Team Canada at the North American Cup held earlier this year.
In the Boys 15-19 division Jérôme Gosselin, 18, of Ste-Thérèse, QC celebrated his birthday today with another strong performance. Gosselin collected one and half points in his matches today and also finished the tournament undefeated. Another strong performance in the older boys division came from playing captain Stephen Bardswick, 19, of Oakville Ontario. Bardswick was under par for the day however lost his match to fellow playing captain of Scotland Ewan Scott.
“Our team played great and had a lot of fun out there today” said an elated Non Playing Captain for CJGA Team Canada, Sean Casey. “There were some tight matches out there with a few of our players losing matches despite shooting under par. Fortunately we picked up enough points to win the competition which capped off an unforgettable week here in Scotland.”
