Maureen Garrett, of Poole, Dorset, a former Curtis Cup player (1948) and Curtis Cup team capt4ain (1961) and president of the Ladies Golf Union from 1982 to 1985 diead last night.She would have been 89 on August 22.
On of the larger than life characters - in the nicest possible way - in women's amateur golf for well over half a century, Maureen received the Bob Jones Award from the United States Golf Association in 1983, awarded annually "to a person who emulates the Jones' spirit, personal qualities and attitude to the game of golf and its players."
