ENGLAND'S BEST GIRL GOLFERS WILL MAKE BUCKS FIZZ NEXT WEEK

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Almost 250 of England's best girl golfers, aged from nine to 18, will head for two Buckinghamshire courses next week to bid for English championship titles.
The English girls’ championship will take place at Ellesborough Golf Club in the Chiltern Hills from 26-28 July, when girl international Elizabeth Mallett of Warwickshire will defend her title.
The English U15 and U13 girls’ championships will be contested simultaneously at Mentmore Golf and Country Club, near Leighton Buzzard.
All three events are strokeplay, the quality of golf will be superb and spectators are welcome. The championships have attracted a strong contingent of local players, including Buckinghamshire girls’ champion Annabel Dimmock, who will represent her home club, Wentworth, in the U15 event.
Evie Ing will be playing at home at Ellesborough in the English girls’ championship, alongside Lydia Johnston (Harleyford), Chloe Li (Woburn), Charlotte Nutt (Beaconsfield) and Sophie Stone (Magnolia Park). The competitors in the U15 event include Shamiso Hatchard (Woburn), Alice Kozlowski (Ellesborough), Luan Skeates (Buckinghamshire) and Charlotte West (Harewood Downs). The U13 field includes Megan Dennis (Woburn) and Emma Norris (Denham).
They will be joined by a high-class field from across the country. At Ellesborough the field of almost 130 girls includes Dorset’s Hayley Davis, the 2010 English women’s champion and a full England international. She’ll play alongside a host of England girl internationals, including Georgia Hall, also from Dorset, who won the U15 title last year and the U13 title the year before.
At both venues the competitors will include county women’s champions. Among them are Ella Ofstedahl, aged 13, who is both the Hertfordshire women’s and girls’ champion. She’s playing in the U15 championship, alongside county colleague Alice Hewson who won the 2010 English U13 title.
The standard at all three scratch championships will be impressive. The lowest player at Ellesborough has a handicap of plus-three and all but a handful of the girls are in single figures. It’s a similar story at Mentmore where the lowest player in the 80-strong field for the U15 championship is off scratch – at the age of 14 - and over the half the field are single figure handicappers.
There are 40 competitors in the U13 championship and seven hold single figure handicaps. They are led by Surrey’s Sammy Fuller who plays off three at the age of 12. Her sister Annabell is making her debut in this event and is the youngest competitor at the age of nine, with a handicap of 19.
All competitors in all championships will play 18 holes on each of Tuesday and Wednesday. After that, the fields will be cut for the final day’s play on Thursday. In the English girls’ championship at Ellesborough the top 40 players and ties will qualify for the final 36 holes. In the English U15 championship at Mentmore the top 36 players and ties will qualify for the final 36 holes. In the English U13 championship at Mentmore the top 18 players and ties will qualify for the final 18 holes.
Hole-by-hole scoring and championship news reports will be available at http://www.englishwomensgolf.org/
