JANET DOLEMAN WINS ENGLISH MIDLANDS SENIOR TITLE

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATON
Welsh senior international Janet Doleman birdied the last hole at Brocton Hall, Staffordshire, for a one-stroke win in the 36-hole English senior women’s Midlands regional tournament.
Janet played the 18th superbly, knocking a gap wedge to within 2ft of the hole and she said: “It was probably one of the best shots I have played for a long time. As soon as it left the club I knew it was on the flag.”
It proved a vital birdie for it broke a deadlock at the top of the leaderboard, where five other players were tied for second place.
“I feel a bit of a fraud as a Welsh senior international winning an English competition!” laughed Janet, who is a member at Trent Lock in Nottinghamshire.
After the first round, which included a short suspension of play for lightning, Janet was three shots off the pace, set by Gillian Curley (Northamptonshire County) and Karen Ellam (Mid-Herts). She started and finished her second day’s challenge with a birdie and battled her way through a spell in the middle of the round with heavy rain and winds so strong it was hard to stand.
“I thought I had finished second or third so I was very pleased to hear I had won,” said Janet, who has played for Wales for the past five years and was part of the winning Senior Home International team of 2008.
