KELSEY AND JANE ONLY SCOTS WITH SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT
Irish eyes are smiling at the halfway stage of the European women's individual amateur golf championship at Noordwijkse GC in Holland - but Kelsey MacDonald and Jane Turner were the only Scots with grins on their faces at the end of the second day.
Lisa Maguire, who has been overshadowed by her 16-year-old twin Leona in recent months, regained her place in the sun by shooting a second-round 68 to lead the field of 144 by three shots with a three-under-par total of 141.
The twins are not inseparable but they usually stick closer to each other on leaderboards and, sure enough, Leona is lying joint sixth after a 75 for 148.
Kelsea MacDonald slashed eight shots off her first-day effort with a one-under-par 71 for 150 and a share of 14th place.
But Pamela Pretswell dropped out of the top 20 with a 79 for 153 which puts her in joint 30th place.
Another Scot on the slide was Sally Watson who slumped from a 73 to an 81 for 154 and joint 33rd place.
Jane Turner improved by a massive 13 shots in the space of 24 hours with a par-matching 72 in Round 2 compared with a miserable 85 on Day 1. The Craigielaw player is sharing 57th place on 157.
No upturn, however, in Rachael Watton's fortunes. The Mortonhall player, who is bound for Denver University next month, followed up a 77 with an 83 for 162 and is lying joint 99th.
Still Rachael is doing better than Scottish champion Louise Kenney who has scored 81 and 83 for 164 and joint 112th place.
The Pitreavie player has not had the best of luck in recent weeks - in the European women's amateur team championship she spent a couple of days in hospital having a food blockage in her throat removed.
