LANCOME IRISH GILRS' CLOSE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Donegal GC
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Paula Grant (Lisburn) continues her impressive form defeating Leinster champion Mary Doyle (The Heath) by 7 and 6 in round 1. Paula was up against International team mate Olivia Mehaffey (Royal Co Down Ladies) in the quarter finals and needed a birdie on the par 4 17th and par the last hole to secure her semi final place against fourth qualifier Jean O’Driscoll (Muskerry). Jean cruised through both her matches today and is clearly enjoying the Donegal links course.
Jessica Ross (Clandeboye) caused a big upset in beating the much fancied Jessica Carty from "Rory’s" home club of Holywood. It was a tight match and Carty admitted her putter let her down this afternoon while Ross had two great “up and downs” from bunkers on both the 12th and 17th holes.
Ross will face Eadaoin Croinin (Bantry Bay) who parred the 19th to beat Victoria Craig (Clandeboye) who was unfortunate to find the bunker with her tee shot in a match where there was never more than a hole in it over the back nine.
Amy Chambers (Dunfanaghy) was unfortunate to miss out on a place in the Championship on a card countback but is favourite to retain the Pat Fletcher Trophy which she won at The Grange last year.
