LISA MAGUIRE LEADS EUROPEAN FIELD BY FOUR STROKES
Lisa Maguire, one half of the talented twins from Ballyconnell, is favourite to become the first Irish player ever to win the European women's individual amateur championship tomorrow at Noordwijkse Golf Club, Holland.
The 16-year-old Slieve Russell club member shot a one-over-par 73, one of the best of the day when a wind raised the course's degree of difficulty considerably, to increase her advantage over the field to at least four strokes. Her earlier rounds were 73 and 68 and her 54-hole total is two-under-par 214. Lisa is the only player to under par. She leads from France's Perrine Delacour, winner of the British girls' open amateur title two years ago.
Leona Maguire is lying in fourth place, six shots behind her twin on 220 after a joint best of the day 72 for 220. These twins can play!
Stephanie Meadow's seventh position on 224 after a 75 gives Ireland more cause for celebration.
Pamela Pretswell from Hamilton has regained the honour of being the leading Scot. She had a 75 for 228 and is in joint 17th position, three places abot Sally Watson who had a 75 for 229.
Kelsey MacDonald is having an up-and-down tournament. The Vagliano Trophy player from Nain has had scores of 79, 71 and 74 for 234 and is joint 43rd on 234.
Three Scots failed to make the cut on 237 or better.
Rachael Watton (Mortonhall) shot 79, 83 and 79 to fail by four on 241.
Robert Gordon University student Jane Turner had an even bigger roller-coaster ride than Kelsey MacDonald with scores of 85, 72 and 85 for 242.
Louise Kenney (Pitreavie) and Lucy Williams, the respective Scottish and English national champions, both failed to qualify for the final ro9und. Lucy had an 86 for 244, Louise an 83 for 247.
