Teenagers Carly Booth, a professional, and Gemma Dryburgh, an amateur, and Ladies European Tour pro Clare Queen were the only three Scots to survive the Ricoh Women's British Open pre-qualifying 18-hole competition at The Berkshire Golf Club, Ascot today.
The top 25 and ties in a field of 112 advanced to the Final Qualifying at Panmure Golf Club on Monday, July 25.
From there, the leading 16 will get into the field for the Women's Open over the Carnoustie Championship links for the first time, from July 28 to 31.
Comrie's Booth, pictured, and Aberdeen-born Dryburgh, a student at the IMG Leadbetter Academy in Florida, qualified with ease on the par-72 mark, although Carly had a double bogey 6 at the 12th.
Gemma had halves of 33 (three under) and 39 (three over). She had five birdies including four in a row from the second and a double bogye at the 14th in an adventurous round.
Queen made it through on the limit mark of 74, a tie for 20th place, which led to 30 players in all qualifying for Panmure.
Scots professionals who failed included LPGA Tour player Mhairi McKay who played in the Solheim Cup matches of 2002 and 2003. She had a 78 which included a triple bogey 7 at the eighth.
Lynn Kenny (Archerfield Links) missed out with a 75 which had a costly double bogey 5 at the short 13th. Had she got a par 3 there, the twi-stroke improvement would have seen her qualify comfortably with a 73.
Heather MacRae, recently moved from Downfield to the Gleneagles PGA staff, failed with a 79, one shot better than former Scottish amateur champion and 2008 Curtis Cup player Michele Thomson (McDonald Ellon).
Pamela Feggans (Patna, Ayr) and Gemma Webster (Glasgow) missed out on 79 and 80 respectively.
Late starters Jane Turner, a Scotland amateur international, and Katy McNicoll, a tour pro from Carnoustie, scored 83 and 76 respectively. Turner, a student at Robert Gordon University, had double bogeys at the sixth, 10th and 11th in halves of 39-44.
McNicoll was progressing nicely until she bogeyed the 13th, 14th and 16th and finished two shots over the cut-off mark.
The leading qualifer was Welsh tour pro Sahra Hassan with a four-under-par 68. She finished two strokes ahead of three professionals, Kyra Van Leeuwen (Netherlands) and England's Kristy Taylor and Henrietta Zuel, who won the British girls three or four years ago as Henrietta Brockway, and teenager Meghan MacLaren from Wellingborough, whose father David is a European Tour executive.
