SALLY WATSON LEADING SCOT IN EUROPEAN INDIVIDUAL CH/SHIP

Sally Watson is the best placed Scot in joint fifth place in a field of 144 for the European women's individual amateur golf championship at Noordwijkse Golf Club, Holland.
Stanford University, California student Sally, who has lost her place in the Great Britain and Ireland teams since playing in last summer's Curtis Cup match in the States, showed she was still international selection class by finishing the first day of the 72-hole event only two shots behind the leader, Marta Silva (Spain), another US college circuit player, with a 71.
Also on the 73 mark alongside Sally, who originally hailed from South Queensferry before the Watson family home moved to Elie, are the Irish 16-year-old twins, Leona and Lisa Maguire.
Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) had an encouraging 74 to be sharing 18th place.
Rachael Watton (Mortonhall) and Kelsey MacDonald had disappoinit 79s to be joint 72nd .
Louise Kenney (Pitreavie) is joint 106th on 81 while Jane Turner (Craigielaw) had an 85 to be sharing 132nd place.
