SCENE SET FOR ENGLISH WOMEN'S STROKE-PLAY AT ALWOODLEY

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Leading women amateur golfers from across England and abroad will contest next week’s English open strokeplay championship at Alwoodley Golf Club, Yorkshire. The event, which takes place from 2-4 August, is sponsored by Tourism Ireland.
The full field of 120 players includes past champions, internationals and a very strong Yorkshire contingent.
Among the 20 players from the county are two past winners of this title, Sara Garbutt (Ganton) and Emma Brown (Malton and Norton) while Claire Smith (Silsden) is fresh from her win in the 2011 English mid-amateur championship. Yorkshire champion Rebecca Wood (Hallamshire) and girls’ champion Olivia Winning (Rotherham) are also in the field.
The other Yorkshire contenders are: Charlotte Austwick (Fulford), sisters Amelia and Imogen Covell (Huddersfield), Jade Downs (The Oaks), Nikki Dunn (Harrogate), Megan Garland (The Oaks) Sophie Godley (Lindrick), Charlotte Hindmoor (Cleveland), Hannah Holden (Lightcliffe), Sarah Lundy (Cookridge Hall), Rochelle Morris (Crosland Hall), Sophie Olley (Headingley), Ellie Robinson (Middlesborough), Helen Searle (West End) and Carley Warrington (Sickleholme).
They’ll be joined by internationals Hannah Barwood (Knowle), Charlotte Ellis (Minchinhampton), Nikki Foster (Pleasington), Charley Hull (Woburn), Kelly Tidy (Royal Birkdale) and Tara Watters (Muswell Hill).
From further afield are players based in the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, the USA and South Africa. Last year’s championship was won by Julie Yang of Korea, who is not defending her title.
All competitors will play 18 holes on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 2 and 3. The field is then cut to the top 36 players and ties who will go forward to play the final 36 holes on Thursday, August 4.
