ST ANDREWS JUNIOR LADIES OPEN AND GIRLS QUAICH RESULTS
Teenager Eleanor Tunn from Reay is on the trail of her biggest win since she started making the long trips from her home on the Pentland Firth in pursuit of golfing success.
After qualifying 15th of 16, Eleanor has won her way through to Thursday morning’s semi-finals of the St Andrews Junior Women’s Open over the Eden course.
Conqueror of No 2 seed Lianna Bailey (Notts Ladies) in the first round, Tunn today (Wednesday) beat Heather Munro (Monifieth), the No 7 qualifier, by 2 and 1 and now plays Jessica Meek (Carnoustie Ladies) for a place in the final.
Jessica, the No 11 qualifier, will be hard to beat if she repeats the form that accounted for Sophie Hillier (John O’Gaunt) by 7 and 5, the biggest margin of victory so far
The other semi-finals will be between Emma Greenlees, the No 9 qualifier from Dumfries and Galloway, and Nicola Haynes, the No 13 seed from Gosforth Park Ladies, Newcastle. Emma toppled the No 1 seed, Sopie Maquire (St Regulus) by a surprisingly big margin, 5 and 4.
Haynes won a tight quarter-final against Emily Slater (Woodhall Spa) on the 18th green.
The Girls’ Open Quaich final, played under handicap, over the Old Course on Thursday morning pits No 1 seed Kara Yule, who plays off 12 at Goswick Golf Club, against another English visitor, Samantha Taylor (Parklands), who plays off six.
In the semi-finals over the Strathtyrun Course, Kara won by two holes against local player Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) while Samantha was a one-hole winner against the No 2 seeed, Alexandra Tait (St Regulus)
