KAREN AND KEVIN ARE TITLE WINNERS AT ST ANDREWS OPENS

 Leading prizewinners from the Eden and Strathtyrum open events at St Andrews.

Kevin Moore won the Eden Trophy this afternoon and Karen Marshall won the Strathtyrum Trophy for a remarkable fifth time as St Andrews’ popular men’s and women’s open tournaments came to and end today (Friday).

Moore, from Douglas beat Mark Yeomans from Millbrook 4 and 2 in the final on the Eden Course.
In the semi-finals earlier in the day, Yeomans won at the first extra hole against Daniel Bennett from Ashford and Moore advanced thanks to a 3 and 2 victory over Robbie McLeod from Elderslie.
The women’s Strathtyrum Trophy final was a battle royal between two old rivals. Four time champion Karen Marshall from Baberton faced three-time runner-up Ann Ramsay from Kirriemuir. Ramsay pushed her opponent all the way but Marshall won at the 19th
Only last week Karen was captain of the Scotland team at the girls home internationals for the second year in a row.
Ramsay reached the final after defeating Anglo-Scot Elaine Clark from Manchester by 3 and 2. Marshall enjoyed a comfortable 5 and 3 victory against St Andrews local player Nicky Wilson from St Regulus.
In the Eden Tankard handicap event, Gary Watt from Cathcart Castle won at the 22nd hole against Paul Greenhalgh from Turton.
Claire Richardson from Burnham Beeches won the Strathtyrum Salver handicap event with a 4 and 2 victory over Pat Rose from Worcestershire.
