LATE-BLOOMING HEATHER FINISHES JT 15TH IN LETAS LADIES OPEN
Heather MacRae got back in the groove in the final round with a one-over-par 71 to finish joint 13th in the LETAS Ladies Open at Hazlemere Golf Club, South Buckinghamshire.
The Gleneagles Hotel player's earlier rounds were 70 and 77, so she had a total of eight-over 218, 12 shots behind the pair at the top of the leaderboard, England's Henrietta Zuel, the long-time leader and former British girls champion, and South Africa's Ashleigh Simon who came with a splendid last round of two-under-par 68 to match Zuel's four-under-par total of 204.
Henrietta's rounds were 65, 70 and 71. Simon scored 68, 70 and 68.
Out they went again in a head-to-head play-off which was won by Zuel. Her cash prize amounted to £3,448, one of her bigger prizes as a pro.
Simon received £2,373.
MacRae cut her number of bogeys to two (second and 14th), compared with three in the first round and eight bogeys in her second round. She birdied the 16th so had only three deviations from par over the final round. She won £688.
