TRALEE v HOLYWOOD FOR IRISH UNDER-19 GIRLS' TROPHY
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY IRISH LADIES GOLF UNIONMunster champions Tralee and Ulster champions Holywood will do battle this afternoon to decide the destiny of the 2011 Irish U19 Girls' Inter-club Trophy at Galway Golf Club.
The Tralee trio were in sensational form against a young Co. Sligo outfit in the first morning semi-final and led all three ties at the turn. Sarah Fitzgerald was dazzling in her defeat of Niamh Cronin, finishing the tie on the thirteenth green.
Aoife Crowley and Helen McDonagh were locked all square for most of their encounter and were deprived of a final result when Avril Peevers powered past Shauna Brady in the top match to book Tralee’s berth in this afternoon’s final.
The second semi-final was a much closer affair with Holywood edging ahead of Elm Park 2-1 at the turn. In the top match Jessica Carty, conceding 7 shots, drew on all her experience to see off a determined Rachel McDonnell on the home green. Hannah Gleeson then levelled the tie for the Dubliners but the respite was short as Rachel Cormier held her nerve with strong iron play to end her encounter in front of a sizeable gallery on seventeen.
