AMBER RATCLIFFE SETS COURSE RECORD IN TITLE DEFENCE
Norfolk’s Amber Ratcliffe made a dramatic defence of her title when she set a new course record of five-under 69 to retain the East Region ladies’ championship at Cambridge Meridian by just one shot.
After a disappointing morning round of 78 Amber found herself in eighth place, four shots behind first round leader Ashleigh Greenham (Essex), who shot 74 Meanwhwile, Daisy Dyer (Essex), Tracey Williamson (Norfolk) and Charlotte Thompson (Essex) were in joint second place with 75.
Undaunted by the challenge ahead Amber, starting from the 10th hole, birdied the 11th, 12th, 14th and 18th holes for a nine hole score of 35. She added a front score of 34 with a birdie at the 4th hole and an eagle on the 6th hole for a new course record of 69, and a total score of 147.
Afterwards Amber said “the course was in excellent condition and the difference between the two rounds was that more putts dropped in the afternoon”.
Paige Kemp (Essex) returned a second round 72 to claim second place with a total score of 148 on county-back from Daisy Dyer (Essex) (75 and; 73).
Ashleigh Greenham (Essex) took the prize for the best gross score in the morning with a score of 74 and Gabriella Cowley (Essex) with a score of 73 took the best gross in the afternoon on count-back from Daisy Dyer (Essex) and Karen Young (Norfolk).
Abbotsley’s Marie Bayes took the first net prize with 143 (77 & 66) on count-back from second placed Marilize Snyman-Harvey (Bourn) with 143 (76 and 67).
