JESS SCHIELE SCORES FIRST WIN ON US COLLEGE CIRCUIT

FROM KEN CONDON
Playing in her first tournament for Oklahoma City University after transferring from Redlands CC, Jess Schiele, pictured, yesterday gained her inaugural victory on US soil with an emphatic eight-shot winning margin after shooting rounds of 68-71 for five-under-par 139 at the par 72, 6127yds Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas.
Oklahoma City won this event, the Lady Chap Fall Invitational, by a massive 24 shots from hosts Lubbock Christian University.
Jess, a member at Kenwick Park GC, would have been an automatic choice for Lincolnshire’s victorious team at last week's English county finals had she been available.

KIRSTY AND SAMMY FINISH ON SAME MARK IN NORTH CAROLINA
At Waynesville CC in North Carolina, Jess Schiel's Lincolnshire colleague Kirsty Condon was helping Radford University recover from a disappointing first day and climb from 18th to finish 13th in a field of 23 teams for the Great Smokies Women's Intercollegiate tournament.
Kirsty, a member of Blankney GC, fought back well yesterday after an early triple and double to finish on 75 (+3) which together with her opening 77, left her tied 52nd of 124 competitors.
Joining Paisley-born Kirsty on this mark was another Scot, Sammy Vass. The Tain player shot a second round 73, which, combined with her team-mate’s efforts, produced the lowest team round of the tournament of 282, enabling Gardner-Webb to move from ninth to a very creditable third place finish.
Sofie Kvarnstrom (West Carolina) was the individual winner by three shots with great scores of 69 and 66 for nine-under-par 135 over a 5,932yd course (par 72).
Eastern Kentucky won the team title with a total of 576 (292+284), four strokes ahead of the hosts Western Carolina, with Gardner-Webb a further three back.

FOOTNOTE FROM ANOTHER DAD, SIMON LEWIS:

Rachel Lewis, pictured left, from Cardiff, studying at USC Upstate South Carolina, also played at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate at Waynesville scored 75 and 71 for 146, finishing 15th overall.

HANNAH EDMUNDS WINS U18 MIDLANDS' CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
In another recent event (that seems to have gone under the radar), a bit closer to home, Lincolnshire’s junior captain Hannah Edmunds of Woodhall Spa GC, won the U18 Midlands Champion of Champions event held at Cold Ashby GC, Northants on Sunday, September 11.
Hannah’s first round of 72 left her trailing by three, but a steady second round of 73 gave her a one-shot victory over pace-setter Mel Nicol of Moor Hall GC, Warwickshire.
In the U16 event, Hannah’s club mate India Clyburn finished second to Sam Meese of Enville GC, Staffordshire.
