SIAN EVANS IS ATLANTIC SUN CONFERENCE GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Sian Evans from Gillingham, a sophomore (second-year) student at East Tennessee State University, finished fifth this week in her first appearance on the 2011-2012 women's college golf season in America.
The tournament was the the Cardinal Cup, played at The Cardinal Club, Simpsonville in Kentucky. The par-72 course measured 6,253yd.
Sian, last season's Atlantic Sun Women's Conference Freshman of the Year, had rounds of 76 and 73 for a total of 149 - only four shots behind the winner, Julia Strandbeg (East Carolina) who scored 75 and 70.
Sian was the lowest East Tennessee State scorer and her effort helped the team to total 614 and finish sixth of 14 behind North Carolina State (594), East Carolina (588) and Missouri (605).
Sian was later named the Atlantic Sun Women's Conference Player of the Week.
Hannah Lovelock from Surrey was a member of the Missouri team who finished third. Hannah had scores of 76 and 77 for 153 and finished T23 in a field of 81 players.
Thomas Rees, a student at Post University, Connecticut, tied for fourth place on 150 with scores of 73 and 77 in the Northeast Intercollegiate men's tournament at Timberlin GC, Berlin in Connecticut. He finished five strokes behind the winner - Paul Tighe (Wilmington) who scored 68 and 77 for a one-over-par aggregate of 145 over the par-72, 6817yd course.
Another Post University student - Ross Earnshaw from York - finished T18 on 155 with scores of 76 and 79. A total of 75 players took part.
Post University (605) finished second behind Wilmington (597) in the team event, contested by 15 squads.
